Aerial view of Glacier in Wrangell-St Elias Mountains

Between 1979 and 1994 the United States and Canada designated Glacier Bay, Wrangell/St Elias, Kluane And Tatshenshini-Alsek parks as part of a United Nations World Heritage site. These parks encompass spectacular glaciers and snow covered peaks and are home to grizzly and black bear, elk, caribou, mountain goats and Dall's sheep as well as marine mamals and several species of salmon. The icefields and the more than 2000 glaciers that radiate from them have been sustained by snowfall created by moist Pacific air. This image was taken near Haines, Alaska.
