Don't Be Fooled

This cute Northern Saw-whet Owl fledgling, despite its minuscule size, is just sizing up the photographer taking his picture…trying to decide whether or not to eat me. These tiny raptors inhabit coniferous forests across northern North America, including Alaska. They nest in tree cavities and abandoned nests of other birds. Besides mice and voles, diet includes small birds, squirrels and insects. Wingspan 18-22 inches; height 6-8 inches; weight 2.5 to 4 ounces. Females are slightly larger than males.
